When Perform Hajj

The Hajj takes place annually during Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Hijri calendar and the final month of the Islamic lunar year. The specific rituals are observed between the 8th and either the 12th or 13th days of this month. Because the Islamic calendar relies on lunar cycles rather than solar ones, the corresponding dates on the standard Gregorian calendar shift forward every year.
History of Hajj Mubarak

The history of Hajj goes back to the time of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS). According to Islam, he and his son Ismail (AS) built the Kaaba in Makkah as a place of worship. Allah then commanded Ibrahim (AS) to invite people to come on the Holy journey, and this is how Hajj began.

Later, Prophet Muhammad (S) showed Muslims the proper way to perform Hajj by completing the religious rites during his farewell Hajj. Since then, millions of Muslims travel to Makkah every year to perform Hajj. The greeting “Hajj Mubarak” is used to share prayers and good wishes, celebrating this holy and meaningful journey. Both Sunni and Shia Muslims perform Hajj in the month of Dhul Hijjah in the Hijri calendar. The famous Islamic festivals are Eid al-Adha, Hajj, and Eid al-Ghadeer, celebrated by Shaia Muslim in this month.

How to Perform Hajj- Step by Step

The Hajj involves a precise sequence of spiritual duties completed over five to six days. Below is an original, step-by-step breakdown of how the journey is fulfilled.
Hajj Performing Steps
1. Entering the Sacred State (8th Dhul-Hijjah)
The journey begins by entering a state of spiritual consecration known as Ihram. To show humility and equality before God, men change into two seamless white garments, while women wear modest, loose-fitting clothing.
2. Assembly at Mina (8th Dhul-Hijjah)
Pilgrims travel to a neighboring valley called Mina. They spend the first day and night resting in tents, dedicating their time to prayers and spiritual reflection.
3. The Stand at Arafat (9th Dhul-Hijjah)
At dawn, the crowd journeys to the plains of Mount Arafat. Spending the afternoon here in deep supplication, seeking forgiveness, and praying is the most critical element of the entire pilgrimage.
4. Night in Muzdalifah (Night of 9th Dhul-Hijjah)
After dusk, pilgrims move to an open desert area called Muzdalifah. They camp under the stars and gather small stones from the ground for the upcoming rituals.
5. Stoning and Sacrifice (10th Dhul-Hijjah)
Pilgrims return to Mina to cast seven pebbles collected at the largest of the three pillars (Jamarat), which symbolizes resisting temptation. Afterward, a charitable animal sacrifice is offered, and pilgrims trim or shave their hair to mark the partial exit from Ihram.
6. Circling the Kaaba (10th Dhul-Hijjah)
Pilgrims head to the Grand Mosque in Mecca to perform Tawaf, walking around the Kaaba seven times. They follow this by performing Sa’i, which involves walking back and forth seven times between the historic hills of Safa and Marwa.
7. Final Stoning Days (11th–13th Dhul-Hijjah)
For the next two to three days, pilgrims reside in Mina. Each afternoon, they visit the stone structures to repeat the stoning ritual at all three pillars.
8. The Final Farewell
Before leaving Saudi Arabia to go home, pilgrims return to Mecca one last time to circle the Kaaba. This final Farewell Tawaf officially completes their sacred journey.
